Dean B. Skinner/BCC Invitational Golf Tournament

Dean B. Skinner/BCC Invitational Golf Tournament

A bright and sunny sky greeted golfers on a brisk morning in Live Oak, Florida, as over thirty participants gathered for the inaugural Dean B. Skinner/BCC Invitational Golf Tournament held at Suwanee Country Club on Wednesday February 2nd. Spirits were lifted when Dean arrived on location with his wife Deb and son Chris and greeted those gathered early. Special words of introduction and prayer for Dean were offered by Coach Gene Peters.

This tournament, created by BCC Trustee Chet Hart in Dean’s honor, was a fitting tribute to Dean, a 1978 graduate of Berkshire Christian College and an outstanding athlete who is battling (illness name here), After graduation, Dean served on staff at the college as the Director of Athletics, an Instructor in Physical Education, and Athletic Coach, and is well-loved today by many across the Advent Christian denomination. Dean was able to do a little putting on the practice green while foursomes teed off around the course!

This year’s tournament winners were Charles Bean & John Coleman (First Place), and Coach Gene Peters & David Huisen (Second Place). Two teams (John Gallagher & Jim Humbles and D’Arcy Chapman & John Demotto) tied for Third Place. Other prizes were awarded for Longest Putt (John Demotto, First Place; Rodney Wilson, Second Place) and Longest Drive (Wayne Hinrichs, First Place; and Matt Rice, Second Place).

Sponsors of this tournament include Mackie McNear, Trev Moore, Common Cross Church, Far More Consulting/Sam Warren, Jason & Amy Holt, and Chet Hart.

This first annual tournament raised over $2,800.00 for the ministry of Berkshire and will be used for educational programs and development. At the present time, over thirty students are being equipped for local church ministry through the Ministry Training Institute (MTI) program and at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. For 125 years Berkshire Christian has offered ministry training for people called to serve Christ in local Advent Christian churches and beyond. We know that life’s hurdles keep Christians from responding to God’s call. That’s why Berkshire Christian provides affordable, accessible and flexible training options to equip people for a confident and thriving ministry!

Prayer and financial support of Berkshire Christian help carry on the work that has changed thousands of lives throughout a storied history. A growing number of students are pursuing God’s call to local church ministry and are served by Berkshire Christian today!
